Wilmington KOA

Wilmington KOA offers RV sites, tent sites, and other lodging options. It is centrally located in Wilmington and only a 30-minute drive from Carolina Beach, near Ogden, so it’s a great place to stay if you’re looking to explore the surrounding area.

Wilmington KOA comes with real top-notch amenities. They really go out of their way to be sure you’re comfortable during your stay. Of course, there are the basics, like hot showers, restrooms, laundry facilities, a swimming pool, and bike rentals. 

But it also includes ping pong, a computer and TV lounge, an RV and car wash, free WiFi, and even fresh coffee every morning. The camp store sells firewood and other essentials.

This campground is pet friendly and has a dog park (their Bark Park) and a nature trail to walk the dog. There is a playground for kids, so this one is perfect for the family. There are various RV sites to meet different types of RVs up to 65 feet. They have a 50 Max Amp as well.

The Wilmington KOA is conveniently situated close to all the city’s top attractions. The Fort Fisher Aquarium is a fun place for the whole family to spend a day. Jungle Rapids Family Fun Park is also a great family attraction.

You’ll also find grocery stores, malls, taverns, restaurants, and the beach, all within a 10-minute drive of the campground. So you’ve got everything you need close by.

Carolina Beach State Park

If you’re looking for affordable beachside camping, Carolina Beach State Park should be on your list. It is one of North Carolina’s many beautiful state parks, located at Carolina Beach about 12 miles south of Wilmington, in New Hanover County. It is right next to the Cape Fear River, so it’s just a short walk to all the water activities. 

If you want oceanfront access, Carolina Beach is just across the street on the eastern side of N Lake Park Blvd.

Facilities and Features

The park has 69 camp sites, most of which are primitive sites. But 10 sites have full hookups (water, sewer, and electricity). In addition, there are several cabins available for rent.

There is also a bath house on site. The sites have picnic tables and a fire ring. Firewood is available for purchase, and potable water is available at their bath house. 

But because it is a state park, other amenities you might find at KOA are limited here. Still, that makes for less crowds and a much quieter stay.

Nearby Attractions

Situated just a short drive from Wilmington, this is a great option if you want to be close to the city’s attractions. Carolina Beach City is close by. Grocery stores are also conveniently located near the park’s entrance. And the beach is almost within walking distance. 

Carolina Beach State Park also features some hiking and biking trails along the coast with great views, so you can soak in the great outdoors. While you’re there, don’t forget to visit the remnants of the General Beauregard ship.

Winner’s RV Park

Winner’s Park is located right in Carolina Beach, on the Outer Banks, and has a real laid-back island feel to it. You can almost feel yourself melt away as you escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. 

Many campers enjoy staying in Carolina Beach and soaking up the sand and sun daily. And, of course, eating some great seafood. This pet-friendly campground is within walking distance of the beach and the rest of the island.

Winner’s RV Park has 21 RV sites with full hookups. Your fee includes access to water, power, and sewer connections. Additionally, the campground offers free Wi-Fi.

Cable TV is an additional cost, if you’re interested. One nice feature is that this RV park has a storage facility for both RVs and boats, which is helpful for water- or fishing-related activities. 

Pets are welcome at Winner’s RV Park, but most be on leashes at all times.

Only 15 miles south of Wilmington, Winner’s RV Park is conveniently located in the center of Carolina Beach and provides quick access to everything you might need. For motorhome campers, a lot of eateries and shops are close by. 

The inlet is right across the highway, and the lovely beach is just beyond, making it an excellent place to watch the sunrise.

Snow’s Cut RV Retreat

Snow’s Cut is located south of downtown Wilmington, pretty close to Carolina Beach. The Snow’s Cut RV Retreat gets its name from the Snow’s Cut River, which connects the Cape Fear River to the Atlantic Ocean, giving you an idea of its location.

This place offers RV-only camping, mostly specializing in monthly RV stays. There are, however, several lots they rent out for shorter stays, so contact them if you are interested in staying for a shorter period. Both 30 Amp and 50 Amp sites are available here.

This RV site is comfortable and clean and offers a ton of amenities. The basics are covered here, with showers, bathrooms, a laundry room, and firewood for sale. But they also have free Wi-Fi, ice, snacks, drink machines, great outdoor showers for relaxation when returning from the beach, and a community room.

Only small pets are welcome here. Dogs of any breed are OK, but can only weigh up to 25 pounds. If you’re traveling with more than one pet, their combined weight must be no more than 25 pounds.

Snow’s Cut RV Retreat is technically located on Wilmington’s southern border, right on the edge of Carolina Beach. This great location allows you to travel north or south for shopping or sightseeing in North Carolina. 

Nearby attractions include Carolina Beach State Park, Beau Rivage Golf and Resort, and the beach. Although Snow’s Cut River doesn’t have sandy banks, you can still enjoy the waters of the Cape Fear River or travel out into the Atlantic Ocean.

Ocean Breeze Family Campground

Ocean Breeze Family Campground is located in Supply, North Carolina, about 45 minutes from Wilmington. It is ideally located near Holden Beach, so you can enjoy the sandy shores and ocean waves whenever you want.

This campground is mostly for RVs, so overnight stays require a motorhome or trailer. Ocean Breeze has plenty of open space and spectacular sunsets during the summer and fall.

But other amenities are limited. If you’re looking for a full-service park with a pool, clubhouse, laundry facilities, and more, you might want to look at some other RV parks on the list.

Woodside caters to RVers who are mostly self-sufficient and just require a convenient place to park for the night.

Southport is a little town nearby with a few things to do. There are also restaurants, grocery stores, and shops nearby where you can get what you need during your vacation.

The town is right on the Cape Fear River, and you can take a ferry to Bald Head Island, which has some beautiful natural sites and historic places.
